What is Magical FDS Plug?

Magical FDS Plug is a software synthesizer in plugin format that reproduces the timbres of so-called "Disk System sound sources" (FDS sound sources). It can be used within Mac/Windows host applications that support Audio Units and VST3.

The FDS sound source has a unique mechanism in which a 64-sample waveform memory (carrier) is modulated by a separate 32-step instruction sequence (modulator). While it is a sound source that is difficult to configure due to its high degree of freedom, this plugin provides an interface that allows you to construct waveforms in a logical way, such as additive synthesis and preset transformation, while maintaining that freedom.

Two systems—Carrier and Modulator—allow you to independently design the audible basic waveform (carrier) and the sequence of instructions that modify it (modulator).

• Logical waveform design – Supporting waveform settings, which often involve trial and error, with a more logical configuration method.
• Additive Synthesis – Like the drawbars on an electronic organ. Blend harmonics using 8 sliders.
• Preset Modifications – Change the timbre by compressing or expanding waveforms based on triangle, sawtooth, and sine waves.
• Pulse Deformation – Create custom waveforms by adjusting the pulse width (1–63) of a rectangular wave.
