Phaser1 is a distinctive 1-bit music editor designed for the ZX Spectrum 48K, created by Shiru. It features a tracker interface and is built on a completely original engine, drawing inspiration from Topo Soft music and Chase H.Q. drums. This software is not just for music creation but is also intended for integration into programs using BASIC or assembler.
The editor offers a separate speed column with a step of 1/23.4 seconds, though the speed options are limited. It includes a single channel for drums, either synthesized or digital, and two tone channels. The first tone channel uses a phasing synth, allowing up to 99 instruments, while the second channel provides a pure square tone across five octaves.
Phaser1 operates on a single-pattern structure with 2048 rows and utilizes block copying instead of an order list. The phasing synth consists of two square tone generators, controlled by parameters like frequency, detune, and phase, to create complex waveforms. Although it lacks volume support, PWM volumes can be imitated on the first tone channel.
The software includes a compile option to save music data, with the player released as source code for customization. Users need SjAsmPlus to compile the code, allowing flexibility in settings like location, drumset, and loop mode. This approach enables the use of the same player code for multiple songs.
