Soundtracker DMA is a music composition software for the Amstrad Plus, a computer built on the same platform as the "classic" Amstrad CPC (8-bit Z80 processor, AY-3-8912 sound generator, etc.) but enhanced by an ASIC. Soundtracker DMA leverages the CPC+'s audio DMAs and, to a lesser extent, the editor's improved graphics capabilities (4096-color palette, hardware sprites). Using audio DMAs allows programming the audio chipset without CPU intervention, producing sounds and effects that would monopolize the processor on the classic CPC.

The tool is designed to produce music with a low CPU load while still allowing AY-SID type sounds and AY samples. Soundtracker DMA's design choices aim to minimize the processing time required to replay music outside the editor, making it suitable for use in demos or games.
