SID-Wizard is one of the most advanced and feature-rich music editors ever created for the Commodore 64. Developed by Hermit, it enables musicians to compose music directly for the C64's legendary SID (Sound Interface Device) chip using a workflow inspired by classic music trackers.

Unlike sample-based trackers such as ProTracker or FastTracker II, SID-Wizard generates sound using the SID chip's built-in synthesis capabilities. It has become a favorite tool among modern C64 musicians, homebrew game developers, and the demoscene.

History

SID-Wizard was first released around 2011 and was designed as a modern alternative to older SID music editors. Its goal was to provide a powerful, tracker-like interface while taking full advantage of the SID chip's capabilities.

The editor runs directly on a real Commodore 64, though it also works in C64 emulators, making it accessible to both original hardware enthusiasts and newcomers.

Since its initial release, SID-Wizard has received numerous updates, adding new musical features, bug fixes, and compatibility improvements.
