Initially released in 1995, it was developed by several groups including MegaStars Hackers Group and Golden Disk Corporation. The software allows musicians to create and edit music tracks with various features such as pattern editing, sample loading, and song compilation.

The original version faced challenges with memory compatibility and playback issues, but adaptations by Tom Hial improved its functionality on dual-field computers like the Byte. Despite these enhancements, some versions had playback errors, causing incorrect sound outputs.

ProTracker's interface provides comprehensive controls for editing patterns, setting tempos, and managing song positions. Users can also decompile and compile songs, offering flexibility in music production. The editor is designed to cater to both novice and experienced musicians.

KVANT SOFT, a distributor, emphasized the importance of purchasing from official sources to support the development of new software.
